Long Beach Cruise Terminal
Following the improvements, Long Beach Cruise Terminal now allows docking of larger-sized vessels and also provides additional space for 2-way passenger shipping operations. This enables embarking passengers to access the facility prior to completion of the previous cruise disembarkation process. The port covers a total area of approx 5 mi2 / 13 km2 (land) and has approx 25 mi / 40 km long waterfront (in Long Beach City). The port is located approx 3 mi / 3 km southwest of the city's downtown and approx 25 mi / 40 km south of downtown LA. There are several pros and cons, and we have never booked our flights through the cruise line. Another option is to book your flight to Los Angeles through your cruise line. If you are the type of traveler who already uses a travel agent, this may be your best choice.
This hotel is less than a mile from the cruise terminal. Hotel Maya Long Beach – Very close to the Long Beach port. Hotel Maya also has a cruise terminal shuttle with continental and American breakfast options. Our embarkation at berth 46 was chaotic with long lines waiting to drop off luggage. After check in, we were told to get back on a bus to drive the few hundred feet to board the ship.

APL’s terminal served the cruise lines for the next decade, but in 1958, the port decided the time finally had come to build a central cruise ship terminal complex. The new $15 million complex would be constructed on a 50-acre site at Berths 91 to 93 on the main channel, just south of the Vincent Thomas Bridge. Due to security issues, baggage cannot be stored on the terminal. Please contact your cruise line directly to make arrangements to check your baggage with the cruise ship. Carry-on baggage must stay with the passenger until you are on board. After you disembark, you must take all your baggage with you.Click here for a list of cruise lines that call at the Port of Los Angeles.

Banks and ATM's can be easily found in the city centers of both San Pedro and Long Beach. Shared van services operating from LAX include Primetimeshuttle and Supershuttle. Includes all news stories from the Port of Los Angeles, covering a range of topics, including business, cargo, community, environment, public safety, and LA Waterfront. The Los Angeles World Cruise Center offers plenty of seating within the terminals.
If you are sailing out of Los Angeles and your first port is Cabo San Lucas, the cruise line would arrange a last-minute flight to Cabo. This would enable you to join the ship at the first port. However, even catching an early flight, we don’t want the risk of being delayed and missing embarkation. On our last cruise, it was comical to hear the announcements for passengers who were late boarding. If you've cruised before you probably have a favorite cruise line. People in the Haven were sitting in a section to themselves but in the same situation. FInally, someone got on the microphone which was barely audible in addition to an accent we could hardly understand. They started taking the Haven people first which is understandable. At this port, you had to take a shuttle bus a short distance to where you actually board so it was very time consuming. When they started calling numbers for everyone else, it was hard to hear.

The cruise terminal is located on the north side of San Pedro Bay, just West of the Vincent Thomas Bridge. Downtown San Pedro, which is just a five-minute drive from the San Pedro cruise terminal, boasts numerous cafes, eateries and even convenience shops for last-minute purchases. Next to the terminal are waterfront attractions including Battleship USS Iowa and the Los Angeles Maritime Museum. The most efficient transit from LAX to the San Pedro cruise terminal is via a cruise line shuttle service, which is available to passengers arriving by air on the same day of cruise departure.
As cruise ships continued to grow larger in size, some limitations to the World Cruise Terminal began to appear in the early 2000s. It turns out the 185-foot-high Vincent Thomas Bridge is too low for some of the newer ships, which can be 200 feet tall or higher, to pass under in order to turn around when they leave the port. Instead, larger ships need to exit the area by going backward, as the Queen Mary 2 had to do in 2006. By the 1940s, American President Lines had established one of the port’s largest cruise passenger operations at Berths 153 and 154 on Mormon Island. But on June 22, 1947, the tanker ship Markay exploded while taking on fuel at the Shell Oil terminal, across the channel at Berth 167. Flaming fuel from the exploding ship raced across the 600-foot wide waterway to the APL terminal buildings, which were destroyed.
The worst part was there were large puddles of water and they had suitcases sitting in it. It was under a tent but they should have swept away the water or put tarps over it or something. Note that the 710 Freeway ends at the Long Beach port, so then you will follow the signs to the cruise terminal.
