Sage For Cleansing: How To Burn Sage, Benefits, Rituals & Indigenous Roots

sage house cleansing

Be very careful that the sage is completely extinguished, and don’t leave it next to anything that’s flammable. Positive ions are thought to be in allergens such as dust, mold, pet dander, pollen, and pollution particles, so burning sage may help to negate those and help you breathe better. Of course not, because that would be super gross and the dishes wouldn’t get clean. You’ll want to create as much smoke and as little flame as possible.

How Often Should You Use Sage to Energetically Clear Your House?

During moments of emotional overwhelm or anxiety, sage burning offers a tangible way to release negative energies and create a more serene environment. Before igniting the sage, set clear intentions and approach the ritual mindfully. Express gratitude and acknowledge the sacredness of the act, understanding that it’s more than a simple cleansing—it’s a spiritual endeavor. Approaching the practice of burning sage with reverence and respect is essential to uphold its cultural sanctity and honor the traditions from which it emanates.

The benefits of burning sage

I help homeowners wade through the many decisions needed while renovating their homes, including how to add more natural elements into the space. Let's find the perfect solutions so you can finally be living in the home you've been dreaming of. I did my first sage cleanse of our current home about a year after my boyfriend and I moved into it.

Energy Healer Monique Chapman is to the rescue!

Even if you’re not a trained Zen master, the subtle frequencies of energy can be felt if you pay attention. A cleansed and energized room should feel light, fresh, and inviting when you enter. Like anything in life, learning how to get rid of negative energy takes daily pratice, so make sage house cleaning, healing crystals, and other practices an everyday habit for the best results. “I pass on sage or Palo Santo with every business card I hand out,” McCann says. “We take care of our bodies with exercise, good diets, and skin care, so why wouldn't we take care of our energetic body as well? ” That’s where the aforementioned spiritual hygiene comes in.

It may be purifying

Burning sage is one of the oldest methods of cleansing a space and ridding it of unwanted energies and spirits. To employ Florida Water as a space clearing tool, you can spray specific spaces with it the old-school shamanic way, with your mouth, using your pursed lips. If you find yourself drooling over yourself more than successfully spraying the area, you can use a plastic spray bottle. For a general deep clean, you can dilute some Agua de Florida into a bucket of water and use it to mop your floor. Your body is where you harbor all of your feelings and emotions. When you become truly attuned to your feelings, being able to trust them in their rawest, purest form, without attaching too much thought to them, you are guided by its timeless wisdom.

How To Sage Cleanse Your Home

You can harness the benefits of burning sage in your home, your office, your property – basically any dwelling that you or others are often exposed to. This practice works particularly well when you want to clean a new apartment or house from any negative or stagnant energies that could be leftover from previous tenants. Again, don't directly inhale large amounts of smoke, and ensure the sage remains a safe distance from your body. Don't forget to extinguish the sage once you've finished the ritual. As you spread the smoke either with moving the sage stick itself or wafting it with a feather, say your special, personal mantra.

Sage cleansing your home can also help you:

‘You will need a fire-proof container, a lighter / match, a bowl of water, and the sage,’ Amanda begins. ’If you are working with a sage smoke stick, break the stick open some at the top before lighting it. Once you have a good smolder, blow out the flame and you should stay smoky.

As we engage in this ritual, it’s crucial to honor its roots, respect its cultural significance, and perform it with mindfulness and intentionality. Before hosting events or gatherings, burning sage can clear any residual energies and create a welcoming atmosphere for guests. Burning sage in these spaces can help clear the air after challenging meetings, office conflicts, or periods of high workload. It creates a more harmonious and conducive environment for productivity. Supporting indigenous communities or ethical sources ensures respect for their cultural practices.

Certain types of sage have antimicrobial properties and may provide additional benefits. Take sage cleansing as a way to create a kind of fresh start for yourself and your home, and see if you can make the best of it. Bear in mind that once the ritual is over, the responsibility of keeping things clean is all yours.

There's no scientific basis to it, but she does like to test the limits of her feng shui practices and found herself feeling ill after purposefully leaving a glass of water open and drinking from it. Once she puts out the sage, Gala then walks around the house in a clockwise direction and set another intention. She'll commonly say," My intention was clearing out all the negative energy to now have a peaceful is and happy home." Start with the farthest room in the house (from the entrance) and walk around doing every corner, windowsill and doorways.

It’s true in the metaphysical “New Age” sense as much as it is in the purely material sense of practicing proper hygiene, both personal and of the household. One way to achieve this state of good hygiene is through sage cleansing. Sage cleansing can be traced back to ancient civilizations, including the Egyptians, who used aromatic herbs for rituals and purification. In Ancient Rome, the practice of fumigation with herbs and incense was common. These traditions highlight the enduring human fascination with the cleansing and purifying properties of aromatic herbs like sage.

Otherwise it’s like shaking a can of soda–the pressure builds and builds until something finally explodes! Open a window and give all that negativity a way out of your house. Sure, white vinegar and Clorox are great, but there is one BIG reason for burning sage in your home; it cleanses the negative energy from it. Once you light the end of the sage with a lighter, let it burn for about 30 seconds before you blow it out. Gala suggests starting with your home's front door and moving in a counterclockwise direction.

The sage shouldn’t burn the way a candle burns–it should just sort of smolder like a live ember or coal. To do this, the sage bundle needs to be loose so plenty of oxygen gets inside of it. You might need to loosen the ribbon if the sage is packed really tightly, but it’s not uncommon to also have to relight your sage at some point during the smoke cleansing process.

Here, we get the low-down on saging from Magriñá, who's been using smudging and Feng Shui practices in her design business since 2017. Read on to find out more about this growing practice, and exactly how to sage your house to reap the biggest benefits. I think clinics or therapist offices would do well from burning sage monthly. These are high traffic places and it’s best to keep the area ‘energetically’ clean. Intentions are central to the practice of smudging, so take a moment before you light the sage to determine what exactly it is that you're trying to purify or release from your space.

Some people like to spray rose water in the air in each room. Most people should cleanse their space and themselves once a week. But, use your intuition and do it as often as you feel necessary. The practice of sage cleansing has deep historical roots and has been integral to the spiritual and cultural traditions of various indigenous peoples throughout the world. The history of sage cleansing is rich and diverse, with each culture contributing its unique beliefs and practices. When it comes to figuring out how you want to use sage, you’ll know when you need a reset and how to approach cleansing.

Smudging can ground you, cleanse in a way like no other, and can help you feel at home on this big floating rock. One of the easiest and quickest ways to for getting rid of negative energy, Sage had been considered a sacred plant by Native Americans for thousands of years. Burning sage was used for many purposes, such as energy cleansing, ritual ceremonies, and healing.

This series is especially designed to help white people talk with other white people, while being open to all racial/ethnic groups. Participants are invited to peel away the layers that have contributed to the challenges and divides of the present day – all while grounded in our call to faith, hope and love. Thinking back to that turning-point Sunday at Christ Church, she recalls that people seemed relieved to share their stories.

Nothing can separate us from the love of God, he said; there is grace and hope for those who die from suicide. It has helped one member establish a nonprofit residential mental health center and another launch a one-woman crusade to educate people about bipolar disorder. It has hosted two appearances by bestselling author Brené Brown to share her message that asking for help is a sign of strength. In addition to the SOS group, the church has invested in mental health support and awareness in a number of ways.

A tenured music historian and writer, David’s love of music led him to develop a meaningful relationship with The Beach Boys, curating and reporting on their history for over 30 years. In 2021 he reunited The Beach Boys and their children when co-producing a re-recording of the group’s 1970 recording “Add Some Music to Your Day” with an accompanying music video that he directed to benefit Feeding America. David brings the same passion and commitment to his administrative role at Christ Church.

Six weeks before his death, he suffered a football-related concussion, which caused daily headaches. He had to step away from football, and he missed three weeks of school, further fraying his social network. In 2019, the church created the SOS group, which meets twice a month for an hour and a half, longer if necessary. The half-dozen families involved politely declined a reporter’s request to sit in, asking for privacy. While the initiatives are focused on the congregation, the community is welcome to attend the classes and programs.

“It was like a huge pressure valve was released and people could breathe when talking about mental illness,” she said. The experience emboldened Purdy to share her story at churches, mental health seminars — wherever she could. She launched her ministry as a speaker and advocate for mental health at Christ Church.

Our commitment to racial justice and reconciliation was strengthened as we witnessed the pain of our sisters and brothers of color. Jesus is our savior, but we were also saved by technology this year! Christ Church is currently offering one online service of prayer, hymns and a sermon, each Sunday at 9 a.m. Church leaders describe the new position as a ministry of presence, charged with addressing the array of issues that contribute to a person’s health — mental and otherwise. Today, the church refers families to HopeWay, and the facility’s medical staff has spoken at the church. The congregation has supported HopeWay financially, Blue said — including a grant to bring in Theo, a therapy dog.

Parishioners rose to tell their stories, not just about financial woes, but about their spiritual and emotional well-being — or lack of it. “God cares about human suffering and calls us to attend to those who suffer,” he said. Rite I – Uses Elizabethan English (i.e. thee, thy, thou) and hearkens back to the rich language of Thomas Cranmer, the original prayer book creator. Despite its growing support of mental health, the congregation was shocked by the rash of suicides. Among the dead was a 20-year-old college student, a 51-year-old businessman and father of two who was active in the church, and the Kocmonds’ son Nathan. As Scholar-in-Residence, Dr. Suzanne Watts Henderson teaches, preaches, and serves as a resource for the clergy and spiritual formation teams to foster deeper spiritual growth across the whole parish.

Laypeople and clergy cooperate as leaders at all levels of our church.

Until July of 1887, the church was without stove, chancel furniture and window glass. The church was consecrated on July 28, 1887 during which a number of clergy participated, as the Convocation of Charlotte was in session. On July 24, 1887 seventeen persons were confirmed at the church’s first Confirmation service. In 1891, the name of the church was changed from “Church of the Holy Comforter” to Christ Church. The sacraments are outward and visible signs of inward and spiritual grace, given by Christ as sure and certain means by which we receive grace. The two great sacraments are Holy Baptism and the Holy Eucharist.

The High Tower Attractions in Hollywood, Los Angeles

house hightower

Without getting into spoilers, the presence of Simon Strong and Alys Rivers, in particular, point to a sequence of events from the source material that unfolds at Harrenhal. There's a reason Prince Daemon (Matt Smith) made mention of Harrenhal when poring over the painted table at Queen Rhaenyra's (Emma D'Arcy) war council in the season 1 finale. The Hightowers made it to 297 AC when A Song of Ice and Fire takes place. While they still rule Oldtown, they have taken allegiance to Tyrells of Highgarden.

History

House Hightower is one of the most ancient, wealthy, and powerful houses in Westeros. The Hightowers have been at the front and center of politics in Westeros for centuries, owing to their rule of Oldtown, which was the biggest city in Westeros for thousands of years before the coming of the Targaryens. First, Daemon must zoom around Westeros to gather as many houses as possible for that fight. I suspect that the strategy set-up will take up much of this second season, but unlike with the book, Rhaenyra might even leave Dragonstone to participate. And we will literally see fire rain down from the sky when the two sides have to force allegiance from reluctant settlements. Additionally, despite what his title may suggest, Otto Hightower is not actually the Lord of his house in House of the Dragon.

Ser Harrold Westerling (Graham McTavish)

When House of the Dragon begins its tale, likely around the year 100 AC (After Aegon’s Conquest), Set Otto Hightower (Rhys Ifans) is one of the most influential men in the Seven Kingdoms. While his older brother serves as the Lord Hightower of Oldtown, Otto has an important job in King’s Landing as Hand of the King. A scholarly intelligent man, Otto essentially ran the kingdom for the last two year’s of the “Old King” Jaehaerys I’s reign, as the beloved monarch experienced ill health. Things generally don’t seem to go very well for the Hightowers when they leave the comforts of their Hightower. Though immensely rich and often very learned due to their relationship with the Citadel, they’re not particularly interested in participating the game of thrones.

Wiki of Westeros

Other features include a custom-built outdoor pizza oven, parking for 4-cars, tons of storage, loads of charm & character. Located in Hollywood Heights with a strong sense of community, centrally located, close to the studios, Hollywood Bowl, Metro Red Line, and the newest Hollywood restaurants. On the game board, you'll find key locations throughout your journey across Westeros and Essos. As usual, the main goal is taking control of as many strongholds as you can.

Barely mentioned in the book (a single sentence), so for all intents and purposes, Ser Harrold is a series-original character. Like Horovitch, McTavish is total Game Of Thrones cast material – although he’s had Outlander, The Witcher and the Hobbit movies to make do with while he waited. This is an absolutely plum role for Ifans, and watching him skulk around Considine is, we’re confident, going to be one of the great joys of Season One. Lord Quenton Hightower was Lord of Hightower around eighty years before the series, and is remembered for his brutal actions when the grey plague hit the city.

Olivia Cooke will make her debut as the older version of Alicent Hightower in the back half of House of the Dragon Season 1. Here’s what you should know about House of the Dragon’s Alicent Hightower, and her powerful kin. Viserys’ Master of Ships, and a crafty and calculating politician. Known as ‘Breakbones’ because he’s reputedly the strongest man in the Seven Kingdoms, although in the books he comes out of a tournament bout with Criston Cole rather badly (the jester and chronicler Mushroom dubs him ‘Brokenbones’).

‘House of the Dragon’: Who Is Otto Hightower, and Why Does He Matter?

This led to the civil war that became known as the Dance of the Dragons. They control the large port city of Oldtown, and played a key role in the establishment of the Citadel, the headquarters of the Maesters, which they continue to support. Their keep is the Hightower, a massive castle and lighthouse said to be taller than the Wall, located in the middle of the city on Battle Isle.

The High Septon of the time had a vision from the Crone of Oldtown burning. Unlike King Mern IX, Lord Manfred Hightower heeded the High Septon and did not take arms against Aegon Conquerer. He was rewarded by having the city spared from the Targareyn’s Field of Fire. Lord Commander of Viserys’ Kingsguard, in which he’s one of the longest serving members. Assigned as Rhaenerys’ sworn shield (think what Ser Jorah Mormont was to Daenerys).

He rides a dragon called Caraxes, wields a sword called Dark Sister, and sports a remarkably frizz-free blonde mop. Stunning Hollywood Hills Designer owned home, completely restored by the current owner while retaining its original Architectural character, with high end finishes throughout. The Hightowers were strong and loyal bannermen to House Gardener, and after House Gardener's destruction on the Field of Fire, they smoothly transferred their allegiance to House Tyrell. They were instrumental in the chaotic civil war that became known as the Dance of the Dragons, as it was Otto Hightower, Hand of the King, and his daughter Queen Alicent who were masterminds of the greens during the war. The Hightowers had been amassing their power in King's Landing long before the Dance, as Otto was Hand to King Jaehaerys and Viserys before he served King Aegon II Targaryen.

Had previously been Jaehaerys Targaryen’s Master of Coin, but took up the role again for Viserys when Daemon dropped it. The Lannisters we met in Game Of Thrones (Tywin, Cersei, Jaime, etc) are Jason’s direct descendants. The wife of Lord Corlys, and cousin of Viserys and Daemon, known as The Queen Who Never Was after she was passed over for the Iron Throne in favour of Viserys – something she clearly still holds a grudge about. A Maester of the Citadel in service to House Stark at Winterfell before Robert's Rebellion. A bastard of House Hightower who instigated alliances between the North and the Riverlands, Stormlands and the Vale. Older brother of Ser Morgan Hightower of the Warrior's Sons and Queen Ceryse Hightower.

They likely founded the original Oldtown, one of Westeros’s largest and oldest cities. The last Hightower King, Lymond married his daughter to King Garland II Gardener and married Garland's daughter as well, making House Hightower the last of the Reach kings to swear loyalty to House Gardener. Interestingly, however, though House Hightower has always been immensely powerful and important they’ve never held full dominion over The Reach. House Gardener controlled the area through much of history from their seat in Highgarden before Aegon I arrived and installed House Tyrell as wardens. House Hightower is so-named because they live in a high tower…also called Hightower. Hightower (the structure, not the family) is a simple castle with an enormous lighthouse atop of it that sits on the outskirts of Oldtown right at the mouth of the Honeywine river.

There’s a lot we can glean already from the first episode of “Dragon,” from “Thrones” and from the books by George R.R. Martin without spoiling the new series. House Hightower[1] of Oldtown is a vassal house from the Reach that holds fealty to House Tyrell of Highgarden. Their seat is the Hightower located in the great city of Oldtown, the oldest, greatest, and second most populated city of Westeros. Oldtown lies southwest of Highgarden at the mouth of River Honeywine, and opens to the Sunset Sea. While there, she became a constant companion to the older Jaehaerys. She spent so much time with Viserys’ predecessor that Jaehaerys began to mistake her for his own daughter, and it’s said that he passed away while Alicent was reading to him. Knowing that, it suddenly makes a lot more sense that Alicent’s father, Otto, so abruptly suggests that she spend time with Viserys in the House of the Dragon premiere. At first, Otto wished for Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen to succeed her father – anyone was better than Daemon.

The foundation of the tower is built on an ancient black stone structure, the origins of which are unknown. They have several minor houses sworn to them, including Houses Beesbury, Bulwer, Costayne, Cuy, and Mullendore. Their sigil is a stone white watchtower with a fire burning on the top. In fact, the family were kings of their respective area during the time of the First Men during the Dawn of Days. The noble house with an impeccable lineage has used the tower to help guide trade over centuries and build The Reach into the prosperous Westerosi bread basket it is today.

As Otto Hightower’s daughter, Alicent is extremely present in court and King’s Landing, and has an extremely close relationship with Princess Rhaenyra – though the pair often differ in their approach to matters regarding the Throne. Head of House Hightower, Voice of Oldtown, Lord of the Port, Lord of the Hightower, Defender of the Citadel, and Beacon of the South. In the spirit of continuing HBO’s educational mission with House of the Dragon‘s characters, here are some spoiler-free things you should know about the noble House Hightower. Olivia Cooke as Alicent Hightower, the daughter of Otto Hightower, the Hand of the King, and the most comely woman in the Seven Kingdoms. She was raised in the Red Keep, close to the king and his innermost circle; she possesses both a courtly grace and a keen political acumen. Ever since House of the Dragon entered production, HBO hasn’t been shy about revealing photos and descriptions of the characters involved in the story.

A Song of Ice and Fire House Hightower Characters

house hightower

This was after the High Septon (who was a Hightower) put the kibosh on Meagor’s plan to marry his niece. Prince Maegor claims Ceryse is infertile after eight years of marriage and sends her back to Oldtown. The Hightowers and Gardeners allied with the Andals (one of the three major ethnic groups the Weterosi descended from) in the Andal invasion from North Essos (around 2,000 years before the conquest). Due to their defenses and allegiance with Highgarden, the lords of Oldtown became rich in trade and commerce over the centuries. During the centuries of the Kingdom of the Reach, other houses boasted of marrying into the Hightower family. Forbidden from calling himself Prince of Dragonstone, he later dubs himself King of the Narrow Sea, and his friends call him Prince of the City (the peasants also call him Lord Flea Bottom, though not to his face).

King Viserys Targaryen (Paddy Considine)

The series makes him part Dornish, which hasn’t been a detail previously. King Viserys’ first-born daughter, and the sole challenger to her unstable Uncle Daemon’s claim to the Iron Throne. She rides the dragon Syrax – the first flame-throated beast we see at the very start of the season. If it feels like this release date news has been a long time coming, that’s probably because it has. HBO has been hard at work franchising its Game of Thrones IP ever since the flagship series signed off with a controversial finale on May 19, 2019.

Lord Lymond Hightower

A knight of House Hightower and cousin of Lord Ormund Hightower. During the Dance of the Dragons, he joined the Caltrops, a conspiracy to kill the Two Betrayers, dragonseeds who had defected to the Greens but were plotting to take the Iron Throne themselves. One of the sons of Ser Otto Hightower, younger brother of Alicent Hightower and second in command of the City Watch of King's Landing during the Dance of the Dragons. Second son of King Uthor of the High Tower, Peremore was a sickly and crippled child, but had a great love of learning and hosted dozens of scholars, wizards, teachers, singers, etc. during his life. After his death, his brother King Urrigon granted land to "Peremore's pets", which may have been the founding of the Citadel.

Plastic dragon eggs and dragons replace houses and hotels, and the board game comes with 102 themed cardboard coins. Once you accumulate enough strength--dragons certainly help--rival houses will hopefully bend the knee. Or perhaps Westeros will be invaded by the hungry beings (kids) from beyond the wall (their room) and no house will win (because you need to stop playing). We shall also meet an endless stream of new character including Alys Rivers (Gayle Rankin), a mysterious healer from Harrenhal, who plays a pivotal role in the book. Ser Simon Strong (Simon Russell Beale) will step up as Castellan of Harrenhal, Ser Gwayne Hightower (Freddie Fox) will surface as Otto Hightower’s son, and Alyn of Hull (Abubakar Salim) will follow up on his work in the Stepstones campaign. When Otto first became Hand of the King, Alicent accompanied her father to King’s Landing.

Toward the end of his fifty-five-year reign, Jaehaerys appointed Otto Hightower his Hand. As no one was available to care for the king in his old age, Otto asked his daughter, Lady Alicent Hightower, to care for him. The lord remained through the rest of the King’s life and continued as Hand for his replacement, his grandson Viserys Targaryen. Despite this power, they have a reputation for staying out of conflicts unless absolutely necessary, having been devastated in previous wars like the Dance of the Dragons.

The four-decked Honor of Oldtown is the flagship of the Hightower fleet. In the War of the Five Kings, so far the Hightowers have followed the Tyrell lead, declaring for Renly Baratheon on the outbreak of the conflict, and not changing to Stannis Baratheon's side after Renly's assassination.

Lord Jason Lannister (also Jefferson Hall)

House Hightower is one of the oldest royal families in the region of Westeros known as the Reach, which is primarily ruled by House Tyrell. Unlike the Tyrells, who rule from a castle known as Highgarden, the Hightowers hail from Oldtown. The port city is well-known for its large, white castle, called the Hightower, which serves as the seat of House Hightower. Oldtown is also the home of the Citadel, where Samwell Tarly (John Bradley) briefly conducts some integral research in Seasons 6 and 7 of Game of Thrones. Member of a minor house, and the son of a steward at Blackhaven. No claims to any land or titles, but in the books he has a reputation as the greatest living warrior in Westeros, so that’s something.

Historical Hightower characters

According to ancestral records, the Hightowers are one of the oldest, if not the oldest noble house in Westeros, as there are records in Essos of trade with what would become the port of Oldtown before the arrival of the First Men. Archeological evidence suggest that the core of the Hightower, the Seastone Chair of the Iron Islands and the Mazes of Lorath had common builders, before the First Men. With his daughter, Alicent, firmly entrenched in King Viserys’s court, Otto soon might get a bit too involved in the politicking of the Seven Kingdoms. It's House Hightower's time to shine as HBO announces a release date for Game of Thrones prequel, House of the Dragon.

Lord Donnel Hightower

The family stuck by King Aerys during Robert’s rebellion and stayed aligned with the Tyrells as far as George R.R. Martin has written. During all of this, Lord Martyn Hightower became Lord Hightower. Martyn’s brother was the only knight sworn to the Faith of the Seven that Maegor pardoned after his war with the faithful and the suspicious death of High Septon. He yielded Oldtown to the Targaryens, and Ceryse was returned to King’s Landing, where she lived to old age. The family resided in a black stone fortress before building the High Tower that gives them their name. The Kings of the High Tower erected stone walls, towers, and fortifications to protect Oldtown from invaders.

The city is home to The Citadel, which is where the Order of the Maesters live and study. Any time a great lord seeks to add a Maester to their house, they must request one from The Citadel in Oldtown. Also in Oldtown is the Starry Sept, which used to essentially be the Vatican for the Faith of the Seven, before it was supplanted by the Great Sept of Baelor in King’s Landing.

In fact, with the release date announcement, HBO also released a master document of character descriptions that you can check out over here. This is a smart marketing ploy given that, like Game of Thrones before it, House of the Dragon will present viewers with many new faces to keep up with. It’s tempting to read the new characters in HBO’s “House of the Dragon” through a “Game of Thrones” lens, to see the dragon-riding princess Rhaenyra (played as a youth by Milly Alcock) as the new Daenerys (Emilia Clarke). Other parallels between the two shows exist as well, though they are perhaps less obvious.

They were integral in the foundation of the Citadel and continue to be patrons of both the Order of Maesters and the Faith of the Seven. Before George R.R. Martin’s Westeros endured the Game of Thrones, Aegon the Conquerer set up his House of Targaryen to rule the Seven Kingdoms. Now, HBO is gearing up to show us the mayhem that happened when this house splintered into two sides that each claimed the Iron Throne. In one corner, Rhaenyra Targaryen had been named rightful heir by her father. On the other side, Aegon Targaryen II had been erroneously elevated to king after his wife, Alicent Hightower, mistakenly interpreted King Viserys’ deathbed ramblings.

Charlotte Mass Shooting: Who Are the 4 Officers Killed?

Records from the North Carolina Department of Public Safety show that he spent time in prison in 2011 and 2013. Since 2001, he had been criminally charged more than four dozen times, on counts including breaking and entering, assault and possessing firearms as a felon, records show. The officers were part of the Carolinas Regional Fugitive Task Force, an operation that draws from 16 agencies, including the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department and the state corrections department. “The last few days has been very tough,” Chief Johnny Jennings of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department said at a news conference on Tuesday, pausing to collect himself and wipe tears from his eyes. The killing of the four officers in a usually quiet neighborhood, where a running gun battle left people scrambling for cover, stunned residents and brought anguish across the city.

A teenager and a woman who were in the home at the time are cooperating in the investigation, he said. The responding officers were "immediately met with gunfire," Jennings said. The shooter was firing from an upper level in the residence and had an "advantage" over them, Jennings said. "I am in contact with law enforcement concerning the tragic shooting in the Charlotte area, and we have offered state resources to help," Cooper wrote on X. "Many roads are closed for faster ambulance transport. Please cooperate with authorities."

Hughes was wanted for possession of a firearm by felon and two counts of felony flee to elude out of Lincoln County, North Carolina. Though the decline in officer deaths is a "welcome trend," National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund CEO Bill Alexander previously told USA TODAY he's concerned about an increase in nonfatal shootings. In June 2012, he was arrested on charges of speeding to elude arrest. Hughes was convicted of fleeing and possession of a firearm by a felon in October 2012 and served 11 months in prison, according to the North Carolina Department of Adult Correction. Rissa Reign, 27, was spring cleaning her house with her girlfriend, the door open to let dust and negative energy out, when she heard gunfire.

They were fathers, husbands, sons and beloved men who died in the line of duty. But his track record does not end there because, in May 2021, he was arrested by CMPD on multiple drug charges and with fleeing or eluding arrest with a motor vehicle. The deceased suspect has been identified as Terry Clark Hughes, Jr, 39.

Newport Beach woman killed at house party in Arizona

Marshals Task Force – one deputy and two task force officers – were killed in the shootout. The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD) confirmed to Fox News Digital that an officer from its department also died from his injuries later Monday evening. Chase White was shot in Tucson, Arizona, by a man wanted for stalking local law enforcement officers, the agency said. "Every single day, Deputy U.S. Marshals and Task Force Officers put their lives on the line to apprehend some of our country's most dangerous criminals," Attorney General Merrick B. Garland said in a statement. In all, eight law enforcement officials were shot, including two correction officers who were killed and a Charlotte-Mecklenburg police officer who was critically wounded and later died. Three other Charlotte-Mecklenburg officers were also shot.

The death of a 20-year-old Newport Beach woman who was fatally shot in Tucson, Ariz., was being mourned today. -- A refugee who fled war-torn Cambodia decades ago and settled in Charlotte was stunned Monday when a barrage of gunfire erupted at the house next to his. At the McAlway Manor Condominiums complex in the 900 block of McAlway Road in southeast Charlotte. According to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD), the first shooting happened just before 1 a.m. In the 7200 block of East Independence Boulevard in southeast Charlotte.

When officers approached a house to arrest the suspect, they were immediately met with gunfire and they returned fire, Jennings said. Marshals Fugitive Task Force comprises various agencies in the area, including CMPD officers. It happened on Galway Drive, near Julian Underwood Park and not far from the intersection of The Plaza and Milton Road. Police said US Marshals went to a home to serve a warrant for the possession of a firearm by a felon charge and were met with "active gunfire" from a high-powered rifle, prompting officers to return fire. Lt. Gov. Mark Robinson wrote on social media, "Our thoughts are with them, their families, and the entire community during this difficult time. We also extend our sincere condolences to everyone who was injured in this violent attack." "The investigation into this tragic, brutal, deadly attack will result in more answers that we don't know today," North Carolina Gov. Roy Cooper said at Tuesday's press briefing.

Following an hours-long standoff, police were able to clear the home and found two other individuals inside the residence. Both were brought to the police station as persons of interest. The four CMPD officers who were also injured in the incident were identified Tuesday as Christopher Tolley, Michael Giglio and Jack Blowers, who were shot, and Justin Campbell, who suffered a broken foot, police said. Tolley remains hospitalized in stable condition and the others have since been released, police said. Twelve Charlotte-Mecklenburg police officers fired their service weapon during the incident and have been placed on administrative leave, per protocol, amid an investigation into the shooting, the chief said.

Grief-stricken members of the community filed into a local church Tuesday night to honor the four fallen law enforcement officers killed in an ambush at an east Charlotte home the day before. "We are getting a close look this morning of the East Charlotte home where four law enforcement officers were shot and killed yesterday morning," WSOC-TV reporter Eli Brand shared. "You can see the damage caused by an armored truck police used to breach inside."

Armed with a "high-powered rifle," Hughes fired upon the approaching task force officers, striking several of them, police said. Officers called for backup and, as additional law enforcement responded to the scene, "the gunfire continued, striking additional officers," the department said. Authorities eventually shot Hughes, who was pronounced dead on the front lawn. At least 12 Charlotte-Mecklenburg police officers fired their weapons during the incident, all of whom are on paid administrative leave, the department said in a statement Tuesday. "Officer Joshua Eyer has passed away tonight from his injuries after being shot in the line of duty this afternoon while assisting other officers with the apprehension of a suspect," CMPD said in a statement on social media.

Due to security issues, baggage cannot be stored on the terminal. Please contact your cruise line directly to make arrangements to check your baggage with the cruise ship. People in the Haven were sitting in a section to themselves but in the same situation. FInally, someone got on the microphone which was barely audible in addition to an accent we could hardly understand. They started taking the Haven people first which is understandable. At this port, you had to take a shuttle bus a short distance to where you actually board so it was very time consuming. When they started calling numbers for everyone else, it was hard to hear.

The cruise terminal is located on the north side of San Pedro Bay, just West of the Vincent Thomas Bridge. Downtown San Pedro, which is just a five-minute drive from the San Pedro cruise terminal, boasts numerous cafes, eateries and even convenience shops for last-minute purchases. Next to the terminal are waterfront attractions including Battleship USS Iowa and the Los Angeles Maritime Museum. The most efficient transit from LAX to the San Pedro cruise terminal is via a cruise line shuttle service, which is available to passengers arriving by air on the same day of cruise departure.

As cruise ships continued to grow larger in size, some limitations to the World Cruise Terminal began to appear in the early 2000s. It turns out the 185-foot-high Vincent Thomas Bridge is too low for some of the newer ships, which can be 200 feet tall or higher, to pass under in order to turn around when they leave the port. Instead, larger ships need to exit the area by going backward, as the Queen Mary 2 had to do in 2006. By the 1940s, American President Lines had established one of the port’s largest cruise passenger operations at Berths 153 and 154 on Mormon Island. But on June 22, 1947, the tanker ship Markay exploded while taking on fuel at the Shell Oil terminal, across the channel at Berth 167. Flaming fuel from the exploding ship raced across the 600-foot wide waterway to the APL terminal buildings, which were destroyed.

The worst part was there were large puddles of water and they had suitcases sitting in it. It was under a tent but they should have swept away the water or put tarps over it or something. Note that the 710 Freeway ends at the Long Beach port, so then you will follow the signs to the cruise terminal.

For instance, if you’re cruising to the Caribbean, but yourship leaves from Manhattan in December or January, you’ll want to pack bothwinter and summer clothes to accommodate both sides of the ocean.

If you’re looking for a hotel that has free parking duringyour cruise, and maybe a shuttle ride to and from the cruise port, you’ll bebetter off staying in New Jersey. The hotels listed below offer cruise packagesthat provide these features to cruise passengers. If you left the car at home and flew in, your best bet is to find a hotel within walking distance from the cruise terminal. Because public transportation is so readily available in the city, many hotels near the terminal don’t provide shuttle transfers. Here is a brief list of hotels that are a mile or less from the terminal. Many people plan to arrive two or three days before theircruise ships out.
